Our Beginning

The Liberia Association for Unity and Development (LAUD) was founded in 1996 by a dedicated group of Liberians deeply concerned about the extreme hardships caused by the country’s devastating civil war. Recognizing the plight of Liberian youth worldwide, the growing cultural alienation among Liberians, and the lack of strong community ties within the United States, these visionaries set out to create a platform for unity, empowerment, and development.

From its inception, LAUD has been committed to providing critical support to the most vulnerable. Initially, our efforts focused on refugees in war-torn Liberia, including those in refugee camps, as well as orphaned children, young women, and families in need. Over the years, we have provided essential supplies such as food, clothing, bedding, school supplies, computers, books, and toys to orphanages, shelters, and schools.

Recognizing the importance of empowering the next generation, LAUD also established a mentoring program in the United States specifically designed to support Liberian youth. This program aims to provide guidance, cultural connection, and a sense of community to help young people navigate the challenges of growing up in the diaspora.

Today, LAUD’s focus extends beyond Liberia, reflecting our commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations in other African countries. Currently, our programs and initiatives have expanded to include Cameroon and Ivory Coast. This broadened scope enables us to provide assistance, foster unity, and create sustainable development solutions for communities across the African continent.

With a growing international base of members and supporters, LAUD remains steadfast in its mission to improve the lives of young women, children, and other at-risk groups. We strive to bring hope and tangible resources to those who need it most, whether through educational support, essential supplies, or community-building programs.

Looking ahead, we are eager to partner with organizations and individuals who share our vision for creating a brighter future. Together, we can expand our reach, strengthen cultural ties, and transform lives in Liberia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and beyond.
